Hand made

I love gifting. Period. I love surprising. One more period.

If that surprise gifting period happens to fall around a time when my hands are free and am bursting with excitement, I go into the mood of producing something hand made. It gives me an immense satisfaction when am able to make something on my own and gift it as a surprise.

This Rakhi, something like that happened. It fell on a weekend and I had ample time with me. I ordered Rakhi for my brother and other cousins who are not in Hyderabad, over the Internet. Next comes the part where cousins at Hyderabad come into picture.

V’s cousin who’s about to complete his graduation from IHM is currently in Hyderabad and their family stays just a floor beneath ours. And that implies that I could tie Rakhi personally. He has chosen his career as a chef and I wanted my DIY Rakhi to be something related to food.

I didn’t know what to make or where to start but I definitely wanted something hand made. I sat with A beside me, browsed Internet, discussed with her and finally decided upon an item and made this.

A Helped me a lot and we had so much fun making this. Some colours weren’t available with us, so we ended up producing such coloured clay using crayon shavings and mixing with other coloured clay. The discussion about which thread to use and how to make it was also something I enjoyed.

This cousin who has grown from a little 5 year old kid when I first met him to an adult now holds a special place in our hearts and gifting him something handmade like this gave me a pleasure that can’t be put in words.

After couple of hours, we got an information that another cousin might be visiting us the next day for Rakhi and this made us rush to make one for him too. We knew he was a hard core fan of movies and so we chose movies as our theme for him.

This was mostly done by A. I was just sitting beside her 😜

While these were being done, SIL decided to go the hand made path for V also. Since V is a great music lover, we chose music as theme for him and SIL came up with this.

Some of these have been converted to fridge magnets while the top one is yet to be done. One more trigger for our satisfaction, as that is going to stay with them for more time instead of getting discarded by the end of the day.

Also this is my first encounter with polymer clay and this experience proved that I could try my hands more at this and make some beautiful miniature stuff.
